Caring for the emotional, spiritual and religious needs of patients and families is the special calling of the hospital chaplain. Chaplains are available to visit patients of all faith traditions as they seek meaning, understanding and value in the mysteries of illness, suffering and death. Pastoral visitors from local churches and synagogues, as well as Eucharistic Ministers and volunteer visitors are involved in the spectrum of pastoral care offered at Good Samaritan. In addition, patients are invited to notify their own priest, pastor, or rabbi of their hospitalization. These persons are welcome visitors to the hospital. A listing of patients by faith, parish or congregation is provided at the Spiritual Care Office. Patients who desire to receive the Eucharist (Communion), the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick or the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance/Confession) may make a request through the nursing staff or by calling the Spiritual Care department at 570-621-4166. Communion is offered daily to Catholic patients. Morning and evening prayer is offered over the public address system.
