PET/CT can provide important information about many conditions affecting the heart, brain and other organ, which will help your doctor plan appropriate treatment for you. PET/CT images are different than those obtained with conventional X-ray, CT ultrasound or MRI. PET shows the function of the body and organs or how they work. CT or other imaging techniques show the structures of the body or how the organs look. The PET/CT procedure provides information about the structure and function of your organs. The PET/CT is able to capture chemical and physical changes related to metabolism. In most cases, this combined procedure is completed while you lie on the table during one scheduled exam.
Diseases Most Commonly Identified By PET:
- Cancer
- Coronary Artery Disease
- Parkinson's Disease
- Epilepsy
- Huntington's Disease
- Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias
What Are the Benefits of PET?
- The exam is painless and safe.
- Differentiates between malignant and non-malignant tumors.
- Provides earlier detection of recurrent cancer.
- Accurately assesses the location and the stage of the malignant disease.
- Replaces multiple testing procedures.
- Reduces or eliminates ineffective or unnecessary treatment.
- Monitors the efficacy of patient care and management.
